Spring 2018

Westleigh-Housing Development

Westleigh have started building 113 houses and 12 apartments from autumn 2017. The Housing Development could take 2 years to be completed and will be built in stages. The work would take place within the hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Most of the development will be affordable housing managed by Midland Heart. The remaining 20% will not and will be facing the proposed green space.

Proposed Open Space

Leicester City Council is currently preparing plans to create a new public open space on part of the former allotment site.

The Aylestone Road side would be kept naturalised due to the sensitive ecology of the site. Paths would be created through and around these areas for pedestrians.

Towards Saffron Lane, the site would be more open with new areas of grasslands along with some mature trees. New play areas would be created close to the new housing. A grass kick-about area would also be created close to the Saffron Brook because the area is flat. This would be suitable for

football and other ball games.

There would be a new path connecting Aylestone Road to Saffron Lane.

It is hoped that the work would start late 2018.

Work Days

The Conservation Volunteers are intending to work on St. Mary’s. However, no work is done over the summer due to nesting birds. The Work Days are open to everyone and meet at the Aylestone Road entrance at 9.50am. Light refreshments are provided.
